I know you didn't do this just to win an election. And I know you didn't do it for me.
You did it because you understand the enormity of the task that lies ahead. We defeated terrorism and separatism, which at one time was thought and told by the whole world to be impossible. Now we want to lead our children and our nation to a brighter future as stakeholders of a truly free motherland.
You waited in long lines that stretched around schools and temples in numbers as this nation has never seen. Many of you voted for the first time in your life because you wanted your voices to be heard. You all came together as Sri Lankans to safeguard the freedom and peace that we achieved with many sacrifices. And you have won! This is your victory.
To all of you who believed in me and voted to re-elect me as your President, I want to thank you for your support. I also want to thank all of you who gave your time, talent, and passion to this campaign. We couldn't have done it without you. And to those whose support I have yet to earn, I may not have won your vote, but I hear your voices. I need your help. And I am your President, too.
As I said during my campaign, I will implement "Mahinda Chintana - Vision for the Future," so that together we can continue to bring a "Brighter Future" for you, your family and our country.
Let us all unite to make Sri Lanka: the emerging "Wonder of Asia"
